Safeguarding

All children in school have the right to receive the necessary care and should be safeguarded at all times..

According to 'Keeping Children Safe in Education 2026', safeguarding is defined as:

  • protecting children from maltreatment

  • preventing the impairment of children's mental health and physical health or development

  • ensuring children grow up in circumstances consistent with the provision of safe and effective care

  • taking action to enable all children to have the best outcomes

Schools are required to safeguard and ensure the welfare of all children - creating an environment where children feel safe. They should feel comfortable enough in their surroundings to know they can confide in a trusted adult if they need to.

St Stephen's has systems in place which support safeguarding evidenced by documents below.
